In this, the 75th anniversary year of the Battle of Britain, it is entirely appropriate that a solo example of the Supermarine Spitfire should display at Throckmorton Air Show.

We are delighted to announce that it will be the Rolls-Royce Spitfire XIX, PS853, and it will be in the hugely capable hands of Rolls Royce Chief Test Pilot Phill O’Dell.

Phill, known to most as ‘Pod’, is Chief Test Pilot and Head of Flying at Rolls-Royce PLC (Aero Engines) and, until November 2001 he was Officer Commanding the Research & Development Flight of the Fast Jet Test Squadron at Boscombe Down.

He flew Buccaneers and then taught as a Tactical Weapons Instructor and Flying Instructor on the Hawk at Brawdy. Pod then moved to the Jaguar and flew operationally over Bosnia and Iraq.

He was selected by the RAF to attend the French Test Pilot School at Istres in Provence and flew over 25 aircraft from the F-14 Tomcat to the Airbus A320.

We look forward to welcoming Phill and the beautiful PS853 to Throckmorton in June.
